The Akumas

Akumas are dark energy butterflies generated by Hawk Moth—or Monarch—from extreme negative emotions such as anger, humiliation, sadness, or frustration.
When a person allows themselves to be consumed by that negative feeling, Hawk Moth establishes telepathic contact and offers them power to get revenge or resolve their pain.

If the victim accepts, the akuma possesses a significant personal object, transforming the individual into an akumatized supervillain with abilities based on their emotion and desire.
The akumatized person remains under the villain's partial influence, who demands they obey him and retrieve Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous in exchange for the promised power. They must destroy the akumatized object to return to normal, and Ladybug's yo-yo purifies the butterfly, turning it white.

The Miraculous

The Miraculous are ancient magical artifacts, each inhabited by a kwami, a tiny entity that embodies a universal concept: creation, destruction, illusion, protection, speed, among many others.
By wearing a Miraculous, the user gains supernatural powers limited by time and energy, which are depleted after using the special power.
Their fundamental purpose is to protect the balance of the world, never to dominate it or use it for selfish ends.

The two most powerful are the Ladybug's; creation, luck, and restoration. and the Black Cat's; destruction and necessary chaos for rebirth.
Together they represent the eternal cycle of beginning and end, and their combination allows for a wish that alters reality, albeit at an immense cost.

Other notable Miraculous include the Fox's, illusion, the Bee's "poison" to freeze those it stings. The Turtle's; protection. The Monkey's "riot" causes the victim's supernatural powers to fail or become dysfunctional for a time, the Peacock's; creation of sentimonsters. and the Butterfly's; akumatization. Although many more, such as the Pig, the Snake, and many more.

They are kept in the Miraculous box, guarded by the Guardian, whose identity no one knows, only Ladybug and Cat Noir. Hawk Moth desperately seeks the Miraculous box and the guardian.

Ladybug can lend Miraculous; This mainly occurs in battles where the two heroes are not enough against more complex threats, multiple akumatized individuals, or strong villains. She selects people she believes are suitable and trustworthy.
She chooses the appropriate Miraculous according to the need of the moment, and gives it directly to the chosen one.
When lending it, Ladybug briefly explains the kwami, the power, and the rules: the user must protect their identity, not abuse the power, and return the Miraculous after the battle.

Hawk Moth / Monarch

Hawk Moth is the villain hidden in the shadows who wields the Butterfly Miraculous.
His power allows him to detect negative emotions and send akumas to transform victims into villains under his partial control.
He manipulates the suffering of others with cold calculation, offering strength in exchange for absolute loyalty.
His real identity remains hidden, only his voice is heard, and his goal is to capture Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous to make a wish.

He occasionally has the help of Mayura, wielder of the Peacock Miraculous, whose power creates sentimonsters; artificial living beings born from strong emotions through an amok; a transforming feather, which obeys the wielder of the possessed ring or object.

Ladybug and Cat Noir

Ladybug and Cat Noir are the protective heroes of Paris; they do not even know each other's identities for security reasons.
They wield the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculous, and their mission is to stop the akumatized individuals, purify the released akumas, and repair the damage caused.

Ladybug fights with strategy, precision, and her multifunctional yo-yo to trap, attack, or swing.
Her special power, Lucky Charm, summons a seemingly random object that she must use creatively to win.
To purify, she breaks the akumatized object, releases the akuma, and captures it with her yo-yo, saying "No more evil akumas!".
At the end, she throws the summoned object into the sky, saying "Miraculous Ladybug!" to restore everything that was destroyed.

Cat Noir provides feline agility, playful humor, and his extendable staff.
His Cataclysm power destroys anything he touches with a single contact, but he must use it carefully due to its risk.

Together they balance creation and destruction, protecting the city and trying to recover the stolen Miraculous of the Butterfly and the Peacock.
